For 14 years, Evan lived in the same one-bedroom flat in Bury. It was his home, somewhere he felt settled and secure. But when his landlord decided to sell the property, he found himself facing the prospect of eviction and an uncertain future.
Already dealing with health challenges, Evan suddenly had to navigate a housing system he knew very little about. Alongside the practical worries of finding somewhere else to live, there were difficult questions about what would happen to his belongings, where he would stay, and what life might look like next.
After seeing information about Gateway’s support services in his local library, Evan got in touch with the team. Through regular support and advice, he was able to better understand the eviction process, his rights as a tenant, and the steps he needed to take.
As his situation progressed and he moved into temporary accommodation, the support continued. Gateway helped him access housing opportunities and encouraged him to attend local housing drop-ins, giving him a clearer picture of the options available and helping him stay focused during a particularly difficult period.
Looking back, Evan describes that support as a source of hope when he needed it most.
In the video below, he shares his experience in his own words, speaking openly about the challenges he faced and the difference that having the right support at the right time made to him.
Thank you to Evan for sharing his story.
